Beschreibung

“While I have been working on the new revised edition of this book, peace workers from six continents have been meeting in Tamera. Men and women from Ethiopia, Togo, Brazil, USA, Greece, Palestine, Israel, Korea and other countries have been exploring ways to build a global alternative. They share their knowledge, get new ideas and begin to see themselves as parts of a global movement. A young activist from Ukraine says,  ‘We come from different countries, but it is the same threats we face, and it is the same dream we share.’ “

This richly illustrated volume describes the building of Tamera in Portugal, focusing especially on the areas of water, energy autonomy, peace education and building community. It is a compact yet complete project description that leads its readers into a great adventure of our time: the tangible implementation of a vision for peace.

Another world is not only possible, it already exists, at least in some parts of the world. In the south of Portugal, a real utopia is under construction: Healing Biotope 1 Tamera, a peace research center and community of more than 170 people of all ages and many nationalities, founded more than forty years ago. Their goal is to build a model for a culture of peace.

This book describes the necessary deep system change and focuses particularly on the experiences in building a water retention landscape. It becomes clear that even a region threatened by desertification can be ecologically restored with relatively simple means. Later chapters describe experimenting with decentralized energy autonomy, working on establishing an international school, researching in cooperation with nature, as well as creating a love school and finding ethical guidelines for a community. This book also discusses some partners in the global peace network, as well as the embedding in the region and the history of how Tamera was created.
